TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Game innovations have come out with various genres, from adventure to horror. In fact, there are some games that are successfully inspiring and then adapted into movies.
Tempo.co tried to summarize 10 games of various genres, which then successfully made into a movie. Here are the 10 games:
1. Resident Evil: Degeneration
It was the first computer animated (CG) film based on its game which released by Capcom (Japan) in the PlayStation platform in 1996. The film is directed by Makoto Kamia with the title Biohazard: Degeneration. It was released on October 29, 2007, and on DVD a year after in the U.S.
2. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider film was directed by Simon West and released in US theaters on June 15, 2001. Based on its game with the same title released in 1996, the film was starring the famous actress Angelina Jolie.
3. Ryu Ga Gotoku (Like A Dragon)
The film about Yakuza in Japan was adapted from PlayStation 2 game which was released in 2005 by Sega and was directed by Takashi Miike. The English version premiered on June 23, 2008, at the New York Asian Film Festival and released on DVD in 2010 by Media Blasters.
4. Assassins Creed: Embers
Assassins Creed's game first released was on November 13, 2007, by Ubisoft. In 2011, Laurent Bernier directed the movie; he made it as a short animated film produced by Ubiworkshop and Roger Craig Smith as the voice cast.
5. Silent Hill
The game created by Konami was released in early 1999 on the PlayStation platform. It was adapted into a film by Keiichiro Toyama in 2006.
6. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was created by Ubisoft and released in March 2003. In May 2010, director Mike Bewel made it into an action movie in the U.S. It was distributed by Walt Disney Studio Film and premiered in London. The film was starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton.
7. Ace Attorney
Ace Attorney film was directed by Takashi Miike and released in 2012. The film was inspired by a 2011 Japanese game Gyakuten Saiban released by Shu Takumi and published by Capcom.
8. Tekken: Blood Vengeance
A Japanese 3D animated film made in 2011 was based on a Tekken video game series produced by Digital Frontier and distributed by Asmik Ace Entertainment. The film premiered in the U.S. and Australia in 2011.
9. Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat is a battle game designed by Ed Boon and John Tobias, developed by Midway Games. It was released in August 1992 and available on Xbox, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In 1995, Mortal Kombat was filmed by Paul WS Anderson.
10. Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Final Fantasy is a role-playing RPG console created by Hironobu Sakaguchi and produced by Square Enix released in late 1987. Japanese director Tetsuya Nomura created a 3D computer animated film adapted from its game released in 2005, released on VCD and DVD in 2006 which also circulated in Indonesia.
