TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Public Relations Center Head Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said that any plane should not pass around Mount Sinabung.

"Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) has raised volcano observation warning for flights from orange to red," Sutopo said in a press release in Jakarta on Monday, February 19.

Mount Sinabung erupted on Monday morning yesterday at 08.53 WIB accompanied by high volcanic ash column of 5,000 meters. The eruption occurred 607 seconds accompanied by hot clouds glided as far as 4,900 meters to the south-southeast and 3,500 meters to southeast-east direction. The wind is blowing toward the south-west.

"PVMBG reported volcanic activity in Mount Sinabung is still very high and in alert status," he said.

BNPB calls on people and tourists not to do activities within three kilometers of the summit, a distance of seven kilometers for the south-east sector, a distance of seven kilometers for the Southeast-East sector, and a distance of four kilometers for the North-East sector.

"We also appeal to the people who live and settle in near the rivers that head on Mount Sinabung to remain alert of lava potential danger," he added.
