Jokowi Leads Midday Prayer for Afghan President

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi became the midday prayer leader (Imam) during his visit to Afghanistan. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani became one of his congregations (Makmum).

In a video that was recorded by the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, the prayer was during the daytime. “(They are doing) Midday Prayer,” said Deputy Protocol, Press and Media Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudin via text message, on Tuesday, January 30.

President Jokowi became the Imam with three rows of Makmum. He wore a black suit with a typical Afghan hat. He and President Ashraf Ghani had exchanged hats, and then he gave President Ashraf a black cap.

After the prayer, Jokowi was seen chatting with the Afghan community and children who study in the mosque. After that, he and President Ashraf Ghani gave a press conference.

During his visit to Afghanistan, President Jokowi visited the Presidential Palace of Arg. There, he was greeted by President Ashraf Ghani.

Furthermore, President Jokowi will follow a series of state activities, namely Tete-a-Tete, bilateral meeting and giving a press statement.

President Jokowi will also meet with the Afghanistan High Peace Council (HPC) at Haram Sarai Palace (Wisma Negara). Afterwards, he will attend a joint lunch at the Arg.

In the afternoon, Jokowi will visit the Darul Aman Palace which also became the closing agenda of his working visit to Afghanistan.
