TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government`s decision to change the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) regulation for toys was not initially met with enthusiasm from online toy store owners that mainly sell imported toys.
An online toy store owner who requested to remain anonymous said that the regulation on imported toy products which must comply with SNI standards will only complicate matters for low-volume individual toy sellers in Indonesia.
“I only managed to sell up to three toys in a month,” said the store owner on Tuesday, January 23.
Robert L. Marbun, Director of International and Inter-agency Customs of the Directorate General of Customs, said that airplane passengers can only bring with them five non-SNI imported items. Meanwhile, non-SNI toys imported through shipping is limited to three items.
Robert said that the items must comply with the SNI import rules if a person decides to import toys that exceed the limit explained above.
Moreover, online toy store owners claim that the regulation will only make it more difficult for store owners to conduct large-scale imports. However, the anonymous toy store owner claims he will respect the government’s policy on non-SNI toy imports.
