Brunei Sultan Files Report over Suspected Defamation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Brunei Darussalam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah on Sunday, January 21, filed a report over an alleged defamation on Instagram with the Jakarta Metro Police’s Special Crimes Corps.

Jakarta Metro Police Spokesperson Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono has confirmed the report

“The report was filed with the Special Crimes Directorate by Brunei Darussalam authorities,” said Argo on Monday, January 21.

The report was sent by a lawyer, Pengiran Zaidi bin Pengiran Haji Metali.

The Instagram account allegedly defamed the Sultan by posting several images with captions accompanying them. The posts are considered to potentially spark hatred for people who read them. Argo said that the investigation into the case is underway.
