Fishery Ministry Aims 2019 Fish Export to Hit 59bn US Dollar

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry`s product competitiveness director general Nilanto Perbowo explained that the Ministry, Finance Ministry and National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) target to reach an export performance of US$5.9 billion in maritime and fishery products in 2019. To achieve such a target, Nilanto mentioned a number of export strategies that will be implemented.
"There has to be a cluster. Firstly, we need to decide what to do when internal and external factors emerge to cause the rise or fall of exports," Nilanto said in Jakarta on Friday, January 19.
In terms of domestic strategies, Indonesia has to establish communication with a number of export destinations. Nilanto believed that such measure is intended to ensure that business players in this sector able to meet requirements set by every country of export destination.
In addition, the government needs to pay close attention to domestic fish processing management. Nilanto claimed that Indonesia needs to undertake a major reform in developing the fishery resources.
In regards to foreign-country related strategies, Nilanto explained Indonesia needs to carry out a number of free trade negotiation with other countries.
