TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The East Java Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) is summoning La Nyalla Mattalitti today, Jan. 17. The former chairman of the East Java Chamber of Commerce and Industry will answer to the Bawaslu about allegations of money politics in the 2018 regional heads election.

In the previous summons by Bawaslu, La Nyalla failed to attend.

"This is the second summons for him to clarify. He is scheduled to come today," Bawaslu law division member Fritz Edward Siregar said at the central office in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 17.

Fritz added that the Central Java branch of Bawaslu has not received confirmation about La Nyalla's attendance.

Bawaslu plans to clarify La Nyalla's statement that he was asked to pay money by Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto if he wishes to run for governor in East Java this year.

Fritz hopes that La Nyalla will come to Bawaslu, so that the money politics allegation can be uncovered, and that other parties suspected of being involved can be questioned as well.

La Nyalla claimed to have been asked to pay Rp40 billion by Prabowo in Hambalang, West Java, to pay for his candidacy for the regional head election. La Nyalla accused Gerindra of canceling their support because he did not pay that money.

His statement was denied by Gerindra deputy chair Ferry Juliantono, who said that the party decided not to support La Nyalla because he failed to attract other parties for a coalition in East Java.

"It has nothing to do with money," Ferry said on Jan. 15.
