TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The fire that blazed the Bahari Museum in North Jakarta was able to be extinguished by firefighters at 11:00 a.m. The fire was first seen by museum employees two hours earlier.
Police say that they are still investigating the cause of the fire. Here are five facts about the maritime museum Bahari.
1. The museum’s establishment
The museum building was first built in 1652-1771. The building was taken over by the Jakarta Government under the leadership of Governor Ali Sadikin. The Bahari Museum was introduced on July 7, 1977.
2. The Bahari Museum consists of two structural buildings
The Bahari Museum building structure is located at the Ciliwung river creek and consists of two parts. The West Building is notably known as "Westzijdsche Pakhuizen" that was gradually constructed in 1652-1771. It consists of four building units, but only three are used as part of the museum. Meanwhile, the East Building is called "Oostzijdsche Pakhuizen".

3. It underwent renovation in 2014
The Bahari Museum was renovated back in 2014 in order to add several museum facilities meant to attract visitors. The renovation included adding a café and a theater room.
4. Museum collections
The museum houses 850 valuable and historical items about the glory of Indonesia’s ancestors. It houses 107 miniature boats and 19 authentic boats. There are also several marine navigational instruments, photos of Indonesia’s maritime history, and many more.
5. Route to Bahari Museum
Visitors can reach the museum by hitching a ride on a Transjakarta bus to Kota bus stop. From Kota, visitors can ride a Metromini Kopami 02 that is heading to Muara Angke. The entry tickets priced at Rp5,000 for adults and Rp2,000 for children.
