TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo finally responded to the plan of a rally to defend Palestine held tomorrow. He appreciated the plan.
"I think it’s fine. Anything related to providing support to Palestine is part of the commitment of our country and our people," President Joko Widodo said on Saturday (16/12).
Indonesia Ulema Council (MUI) will lead the massive rally at the National Monument (Monas) protest the statement from U.S. PresidentAmerika Serikat Donald Trump declaring Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. This rally gains a lot of support since it is in line with Indonesia’s policy to support Palestine.
President Jokowi rejected President Trump’s declaration. In the summit held by Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), he demanded Islamic countries to not follow President Trump and to return Jerusalem’s status quo.
Jokowi is optimistic that the issue of Jerusalem and Palestine can soon be resolved considering that his argument on Jerusalem was accommodated in OIC summit in Istanbul.
