TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto said 57 members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are against US President Donald Trump’s recent controversial statement regarding Jerusalem.

According to Wiranto, OIC has officially asked President Trump to reconsider his decision in recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

“I heard that [OIC] member states agreed to go against the US Government and President Trump’s arbitrary decision to acknowledge Jerusalem as Israel’s capital,” said Wiranto at his office on Friday, December 15.

Wiranto reasons that Trump’s decision will only hamper the peace endeavors initiated by the international community which includes the US. He explained that the US Government initially attempted to initiate peace between Palestine and Israel, especially in Jerusalem, considering that Jerusalem is neither owned by Israel nor Palestine.

Wiranto also assured the public that the Indonesian Government will continue to fight for peace in Palestine. One of the government’s attempt is by sending Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi to Brussels, Belgium, to rally the support from European countries.
