Densus 88 Arrests 19 Suspected Terrorists in Three Days

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian anti-terror squad Densus 88 arrested 19 suspected terrorists throughout December 9-11 in East Java, South Sumatra, and West Kalimantan.
National Police spokesman Inspector General Setyo Wasisto said that all of the suspected terrorists have been detained and will be taken to Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) headquarters in Depok.
“It isn’t clear how many of them that will be taken to Brimob headquarters,” said Setyo Wasisto at the Police HQ in Jakarta today, Dec. 12.

The series of consecutive arrests is highly believed to be police’s prevention strategy heading towards Christmas and the new year celebration.
Four of the suspected terrorists were involved in the procurement and purchase of several firearms that are used for terrorist training camps in Gema Lipat Kain in West Kalimantan. The rest of the terrorists were also believed to be involved in Riau’s Bukit Gema Kampar terrorist training camp.
Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian assured that, so far, there are no terrorist threats ahead of Christmas and new years celebrations.
