TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo is staying away from the debates over the electronic ID card (e-KTP) graft case implicating the Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Setya Novanto. The President was also very careful not to make controversial comments on the House Speaker post following Setya’s detention by the Corruption Eradication Commission yesterday.
“The DPR has its own mechanism to suspend a state agency leader… We should follow the mechanism, the applicable rules,” Jokowi told journalists today when asked about Setya Novanto detention.

As reported before, the House Speaker was detained by the KPK yesterday after being picked up at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. The doctors of the hospital and the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) declared him physically capable of undergoing legal process.
Setya allegedly enriching himself by arranging procurement process for the e-KTP, causing Rp2.3 trillion in state losses.
Jokowi is confident that whatever happened at the DPR at the moment, after Setya Novanto’s detention, will not affect the relationship between the executive and legislative branches. “It’ll be fine,” he said.
