TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A pianist Ananda Sukarlan, who is currently under the spotlight, has been residing in two places; Indonesia and Cantabria, Spain.

Cantabria is located between the Bay of Biscay and the Cantabrian Mountains, that makes it the right place for traveling.

Ananda Sukarlan told Tempo that Cantabria is similar to Puncak. The climate is strongly influenced by Atlantic Ocean winds trapped by the mountains.

Ask any Cantabrian and they will proudly tell you the big secret to their beloved land’s success: "In summer we hit the beach, and in winter we go on mountain adventures," as reported by telegraph.co.uk.

It’s this unique combination of landscapes and lifestyles – of a breathtaking coast, quiet country, deep valleys, majestic mountains and characterful seaside towns – that makes this tiny region of northern Spain such a pleasure to explore. Not to forget fantastically fresh food and tremendous historical riches.

You will also find the oldest and most impressive cave art in the world, at Altamira and El Castillo. The Altamira and nine other caves in Cantabria have been declared as the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

No wonder that Ananda Sukarlan likes to stay in Cantabria with his family. He once told Tempo that he lives in a home with a big yard that was located in a small village in Cantabria’s hills. “This area is similar to Puncak, but there is no villa, only my house,” he said. His neighbors are farmers, cattle breeders, and carpenters.

Nevertheless, Ananda Sukarlan also would always miss his hometown, Indonesia. On the Lebaran Days (Eid Days), he would crave to eat Indonesian dishes. "I would crave for ketupat, opor ayam, sambal goreng hati, and ikan asin," he mentioned the foods that cannot be found in Cantabria.
