Technology is Imperative in Maritime Exploration, says Minister

TEMPO.CO, Semarang - Research, Technology and Higher Education Minister (Menristekdikti) Muhammad Nasir emphasized that exploration of maritime resources in Indonesia must use technology in order to yield optimum results.
Nasir in Semarang on Saturday (11/11) said that Indonesia holds great potentials in maritime resources ranging from fisheries to renewable energy.
Nasir even estimated that Indonesia can achieve 30 percent of economic growth by exploring maritime sector to its full potential.
Nasir also admitted that employment in maritime sector is still very low.
"We are still far (from effective exploration), still low in employment rate, but there are great potentials. If we can optimize this sector, it will make up 30 percent of our economy," Nasir stated.
Nasir explained that fishermen and fisheries businessmen must implement technology to optimize their yield and use of fuel. He further stated that the role of marine researchers is crucial and marine research must be prioritized.
