Chevening Alumnus Gather to Watch Liverpool vs MU Match Together

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The alumnus of the Chevening scholarship program gathered to watch the Liverpool vs Manchester United match in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Saturday, October 14, 2017. Located in an indoor restaurant, the alumnus are trying to revived the experience of holding a nobar (watching together) of a football match in an England pub style, just like they used to have back in the UK.
"Usually it used to be in the UK watching together in pubs, but the audience is more alive, but at least here we try to live that (spirit) too," said Renne Kawilarang, one of the participants.
Rene, who is an alumnus of Chevening in 2004-2005, came up with a Liverpool jersey. While attending college in England, he confessed several times to come and watch The Kop directly at Anfield.
During the game, the alumnus screamed several times when the chances created both teams. The match itself ended in a 0-0 draw.
Mastering the game, Liverpool failed to score a goal. "We should (Liverpool) win, play at home and there are two chances that goals could be," Renne said.
He admits Manchester United under the care of Jose Mourinho implements a tight defense and difficult to penetrate. "It's not parking the bus anymore, but parking the truck," Rene said.
The organizers of the event, Yurdhina Meilissa, said the event was part of efforts to maintain relationships between alumni. Game two giants Liverpool and Manchester United giants, selected for having a strong supporter base in Indonesia.
"Not only because the alumni are fans of the ball, but that's part of the habit there every weekend," said Icha, a nickname to Yurdhina.
According to Icha, Yurdhina's familiar greeting, many of Chevening's alumni are football fans. This sport is very popular in the UK, Chevening scholarship location is given.
In addition to frequenting watching together at the weekend, the scholarship recipients are also often a tour to various stadiums in the UK. "If there is a game, we like to watch the same time together, or with the tour of the stadium," said Icha.
