Football Fan Killed, PSSI Urged to Improve Referees Performance

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Youth and Sports Ministry regretted the death of soccer supporters in Indonesia. On October 12, a Persita Tangerang supporter Banu Rusman died during a violent clash between supporters.
Banu died after a Liga 2 match between Persita and PSMS Medan on October 11, which ended in a riot between supporters.
After expressing grief over for the incident, a ministry's official instructed the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) to immediately find the perpetrators.
"We are seriously asking PSSI to hold a thorough investigation and prevent the incident from ever happening again," the ministry's secretary Gatot S Dewa Broto said in a written statement, Friday, October 13.

Gatot said that in the last 6 months there have been several incidents with violence that occurred during football matches both in Liga 1 and Liga 2. He asked PSSI to prosecute those who are involved in the incident, either directly or indirectly.
"PSSI must act decisively, doubtlessly, and objectively," said Gatot.
Gatot also asked PSSI to improve the quality of its referees and said that many violent incidents were triggered by spectators' discontent over referees' decisions.
"The public and the supporters demand referees who are highly committed in every game," Gatot said.
