TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi has been scheduled to inaugurate a street vendor complex located at Kota Tua (Old Town) in Jakarta. One of the interesting features is a stage at the heart of the complex.
“The President will inaugurate [the street vendor complex] at the Kota Tua area, including that at Jalan Cengkeh,” Irwandi, head of the Jakarta Cooperative, Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises and Trade Agency said last weekend.
Irwandi added that the complex has the capacity of housing 456 street vendors.
In addition to the stage, the street vendor complex also provides various facilities such as an air-conditioned prayer room, sinks, toilets, parking lot, and security posts.
Earlier, the Jakarta administration closed illegal stalls surrounding the Kota Tua Area due to a revitalization plan. According to Irwandi, the street vendor complex at Jalan Cengkeh would have a rest area. Visitors will be required to walk from Jalan Cengkeh to Kota Tua so that they will be attracted to buy from street vendors.
