TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) held an auction of seized assets at Jakarta Convention Center yesterday, Sept. 22.
Many luxury items could be found at the event, such as iPhone and Jaguar car which were confiscated from the corruption convicts and graft items.
According to Finance Ministry’s director general of state asset Isa Rachmatarwata, the auction process done by KPK is an act of law enforcement. "This is a justified process, the state must decide what to do with the confiscated assets," Isa said during the opening of the event dubbed Lelang Expo 2017.
He said the auction was done for the seized and graft assets that were not utilized by the state. "So, it can be an income [for the state]."
Isa viewed that the Lelang Expo 2017 could introduce a mechanism of a transparent transaction. The bidding process also supports the optimal price resulted by the interaction between the seller and the buyers. Other than that, the items will be sold out more quickly.
The assets being auctioned include Samsung, Apple’s iPhone 5, Blackberry cellphones, and even a Kawasaki Ninja motorbike.
Luxury cars such as Jaguar XJL 3.0 VG AT, Toyota Alphard, Audi, Volkswagen (VW) Beetle and VW Golf, Jeep Wrangler, Suzuki Swift, two units of Toyota, and three units of Honda could also be found at the KPK auction.
KPK also auctioned at least 19 graft packages, which include gold coins, guitar, woven fabric, and leather wallets. The bidding price limit started at Rp18,000 to Rp15 million.
