TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat hopes that the central government will soon issue a land certificate for the National Monument (Monas) for the Jakarta administration. According to Djarot, the certificate issuance will be an acknowledgment that the area belongs to the Jakarta administration.
Djarot explained that the Jakarta administration is a part of the country. Hence, the Jakarta administration should be allowed to manage and maintain Monas that was built during President Soekarno’s era. The governor suggested that the funds to the Monas management and maintenance can be taken from the Jakarta Budget.

“If the asset belongs to the central government through the State Secretariat, the provincial administration can’t allocate funds [to manage] the asset,” Djarot said in Ancol, North Jakarta, today, August 23.
Earlier on August 20, President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo handed over 17 asset certificates to the Jakarta administration. The property includes the City’s Clean (Bersih), Humane (Manusiawi), and Dignified (Wibawa) or BMW Park, the Jakarta City Hall, and a horse race arena.
However, the central government has not yet handed over the certificate for Monas.
