TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tambora National Park Center head Budi Kurniawan predicted that the number of Mt. Tambora hikers in 2017 reaches more than 2,000 people. This number increases significantly compared to last year with 1,331 people.
He explained that the number of tourists climbing Mt. Tambora in the past two years has been increasing. The number of hikers in the period of January-July 2017 reached 800 people consisting of both domestic and international visitors.
However, with the addition of 1,000 hikers visiting in the 72nd Indonesian Independence on August 17 August 2017, then the total hikers reach 1.800 people in the period January-August.
He said that the surge of the number of hikers is resulted from tourism promotion launched by both local and central government. West Nusa Tenggara provincial administration, Dompu regency administration, and Bima district administration hold Tambora Festival annually in order to increase the number of tourists visiting Sumbawa Island, especially Tambora National Park.
