TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two corruption convicts, former Tax Directorate General employee Gayus P. Tambunan and former Treasurer of the Democratic Party Muhammad Nazaruddin, have received Independence Day's clemency from the Justice and Human Rights Ministry.
"Nazaruddin obtained a five-month reduction while Gayus got six months," the Justice and Human Rights Ministry's acting director general for correctional institutions Mamun said in Jakarta, Thursday, August 17.

He said that the clemency for Gayus Tambunan is based on Government Regulation No. 28/2006, while Nazaruddin's was given under the of KPK's recommendation for being a justice collaborator.
According to the Ministry's data, Gayus Tambunan's prison term in Mount Sindur penitentiary in Bogor is until August 21st, 2035, while Nazaruddin's term in Sukamiskin Prison in Bandung in until October 5, 2023.
Gayus is serving jail terms for bribery, money laundering, gratification, and passports forgery; While Nazaruddin is the convicted bribery case in the Hambalang Athlete Flats construction, gratification, and money laundering.
The Justice and Human Rights Ministry gave Independence Day clemencies to 92,816 inmates this year. Thirty-five terrorism prisoners got their jail terms reduced this. The Ministry also gave clemencies to 14,661 drug convicts and 400 corruption convicts.
Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly said the clemencies given this year allows the state to save about Rp102 billion.
