TEMPO.CO, Washington - US Central Intelligence Agency director, Mike Pompeo, assures there is no possibility of a war with North Korea in the near future.
Pompeo's statement on Sunday, August 13, 2017 was made following the threat of US President Donald Trump to retaliate if North Korea continues to threaten its country by using nuclear weapons.
"For now, there is no threat (of war), but believe me, there is the possibility of a nuclear missile aimed at Denver, which is a serious threat," he said.
As reported by the Guardian on August 14, 2017, Pompeo confirmed the results of intelligence sources indicate there is no possibility of nuclear war to break out.
However, Pompeo believes North Korea will continue to develop missile capabilities under its leader Kim Jong-un. "He developed two in July, so it does not surprise me if there are other missile tests."
The North Korean missile tests last month showed the nuclear-armed regime now possessing an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) weapon capable of reaching the mainland of the United States.
The Washington Post this week reported that the US Defense Intelligence Agency concluded Pyongyang had a small nuclear warhead that could be installed in an ICBM.
The CIA recently announced the creation of a special unit to collect and analyze North Korean nuclear weapons. The unit brought together people from various professions including institutions, analysts, operations teams, cyber experts, and others who had previously probably never closely worked together.
