TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The largest pop culture convention in Indonesia, Popcon Asia 2017, was officially opened at the Jakarta Convention Center on Friday evening, August 4, 2017. Cosplayers and actors got up the stage and took turn to greet fans and visitors.
“We hope that Popcon Asia will be held in other cities and other countries,” Popcon Asia event director Grace Kusnadi said.
Popcon was held for the first time back in 2012. The organizing committee charged the tickets with Rp95,000 for a day and Rp170,000 for two days. Themed “Pop Parade” the organizing committee invited international pop culture icons. This year, about 25,000 visitors were expected to attend the event.
Popcon Asia co-founder Sunny Gho said that the event would be held in a 6,500-square-meter hall.
“This year we will have 50 exhibitor companies, such as comic book, film, game, animation, and toy companies,” Sunny said.
The event also featured the Artist Alley where domestic and foreign creators showcased their works.
“This year’s Popcon features the largest artist alley ever in Indonesia with 200 creators. Some of them are foreign artists, but most of them are locals,” Sunny added.
