TEMPO.CO, Denpasar - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi said that political parties have the right to support him for a reelection in 2019. However, he asserted that he is still focusing on running government programs in his remaining terms of office.

“Every [political] party has a right to express its view and support for anyone,” President Jokowi said yesterday, August 4, after opening the National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) of the People’s Conscience Party (Hanura) in Kuta, Bali.

Hanura chairman Oesman Sapta Odang in his speech declared the party’s supports for Jokowi in the 2019 presidential election. Oesman said that Hanura will remain committed to supporting Jokowi’s administration.

“It is imperative for Hanura to safeguard President Jokowi’s programs,” Oesman said.

Earlier, the United Indonesia Party (Perindo) declared supports for Jokowi. According to the President, individuals also have the right to express their view and whether or not exercise their political rights.

“Journalists, for example, can either express their supports or not. It’s an individual right,” he said.

Jokowi reiterated that he is still focusing on completing his tasks as the President and running his programs.
