TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A magnitude 5 earthquake struck off Southwest Sumatra at 6:57 am today.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) spokesman Harry Tirto says that the epicenter of the quake was at 5.72 degrees south latitude and 101.31 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

“The earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami,” Harry Tirto says in a written statement.
He adds that the earthquake occurred 238 kilometers southwest of Bengkulu province and 614 kilometers off the coast of Jakarta.
