“It isn’t intentional. Previous presidents were faced with similar challenges,” said Sri Mulyani today.

One of the challenges, according to Sri Mulyani, is the 1998-1999 Asian economic crisis that caused Indonesia in a deep debt to rebuild the country.
The government at that time had to stabilize the country and regain the public trust.
“President Jokowi is currently leading and has made Indonesia more stable, the debt ratio and the GDP are much more stable although it’s not good enough yet,” Sri Mulyani explained.

Sri Mulyani believes that Indonesia has a chance to catch up with the development by involving private sectors and the World Bank.
Sri Mulyani has asked the World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim to build a better partnership with Indonesia in overcoming numerous problems of development and to ensure that its funding is not too dependent on the state budget.
