Thousands of Residents in Yogyakarta Facing Clean Water Crisis

TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Thousands of residents of Yogyakarta especially those residing in Gunungkidul are facing a clean water crisis. As many as 45,230 people in the regency cannot access clean water in this dry season.
Based on data from Yogyakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), 65,086 people in Yogyakarta are facing the clean water crisis. In addition to Gunung Kidul, 7,135 people in Bantul Regency also suffer from water crisis and 12,721 people in Kulon Progo Regency are also in danger of water crisis.

"7 districts in Gunung Kidul have requested for clean water supply," Gunungkidul Disaster Mitigation Agency head Budhi Harjo said on Friday, July 21.
These districts include Panggang, Tepus, Tanjungsari, Purwosari, Paliyan, Rongkop, and Girisubo Districts. The seven districts consist of 32 villages with 45,230 people. "It is very urgent because 32 villages are facing water crisis," he explained.
To supply clean water, Gunung Kidul Disaster Mitigation Agency has allocated Rp600 million for this year. The fund is allocated to anticipate drought in the dry season.
He explained that 7 units of water tanks are set to distribute clean water and 28 water tanks are sent to distribute water four times in a day.
