TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly said that he is ready to face a lawsuit to be filed by hardline group Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) that was recently disbanded.

HTI argues that the disbandment is invalid considering that they did not receive any warnings related to the disbandment, although it was based on the recently-issued Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perpu) on mass organizations.

“[HTI] can go ahead [and sue us], since it is the proper juridical mechanism. We’re ready for it,” Yasonna said on Friday, July 21.

Yasonna reminded that Indonesia is a constitutional state and citizens are permitted to file a lawsuit against the government if they do not agree with the decision.

HTI is officially the first mass-organization that had its legal status revoked by the Indonesian Government under the newly-passed Perpu. The government considers that Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia’s ideology is against state ideology Pancasila (five national principles) and the 1945 Constitution.

HTI’s lawyer, Yuzril Ihza Mahendra, claims that he is currently formulating strategies to file a lawsuit against the Indonesian government.
