Cargo Aircraft Skids Off Runway at Wamena Airport

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A cargo aircraft skidded off the runway for around 1 kilometer at Wamena Airport this morning and almost crashed into a perimeter fence at the airport.

The Tri MG Asia Airlines plane reportedly had a tire failure before landing.

As of 1:35 pm Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT), two fire trucks were deployed near the ill-fated aircraft.

Police officers and airport personnel have been instructed to monitor the security situation at the scene.

Antara news agency observed that one of the plane’s tires fell off and was found 100 meters from its body.

Jayawijaya Police chief, Regent and Military Commander have arrived at the scene.

As of 1:42 Eastern Indonesia Time, both the arrival and departure flights at the Wamena Airport were suspended.
