Praveen, Debby Lose to Chinese Doubles in Australia Open Final

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian mixed doubles pair Praveen and Debby fails to win Australia Open 2017 after losing to China’s Zheng Siwei and Chen Qingchen 21-18, 14-21, 17-21. The final was held today at the Olympic Park, Sydney.
The match between Praveen and Debby vs Siwei and Qingchen was very competitive. The Chinese pair was off to a flyer in the first game. Praveen and Debby, however, had managed to equalize at 16-16, yet they trailed once again 16-17. The Indonesian shuttlers later came from behind to lead 20-17. Siwei and Qingchen had reduced the deficit to 20-18 only to lose 21-18.
In the second game, Praveen and Debby were ahead but stopped winning points after hitting 6. Thereafter, Siwei and Qingchen were unstoppable, ending the game with 21-14.
The third game saw Praveen and Debby leading initially before being pegged back by Siwei and Qingchen midway through it. The Indonesian pair had led 13-12 but the Chinese leveled the scoring and continued to score more points and won 21-17.
Praveen and Debby were the only Indonesian shuttlers progressing to the Australia Open final. It was the third defeat of the mixed doubles pairing in its three encounters against its Chinese counterpart in various competition.
