TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The attack at North Sumatra Police Headquarters in Medan this morning was allegedly instructed by Bahrun Naim. He was the mastermind of Jakarta bombing and shooting early last year.
“They were instructed to stage an amaliah [terror attack],” the National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Setyo Wasisto said today at the Police HQ in Jakarta. “If they don’t have bombs, they will use anything to launch an attack.”
According to Setyo, two perpetrators carried out the attack. "Two men jumped the fence of North Sumatra Police HQ before attacking one of the outposts," he said.

One of them allegedly stabbed an officer on duty Adj. First Inspector (Aiptu) Martua with a sharp object, Setyo said.
Another officer Brigadier E. Ginting alerted the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel who subsequently chased the perpetrators and fired shots. A perpetrator was killed on the spot and one other is in critical condition.
Setyo revealed that on June 6 the counterterrorism unit Special Detachment (Densus) 88 arrested three terror suspects who had allegedly plotted an attack in Medan.
The police and Densus 88 are currently investigating the terror ring of the two perpetrators, according to Setyo.
