TEMPO.CO, Karawang - Dozens of families in the northern coastal area of Cemarajaya Village, Karawang Regency, West Java, were forced to be displaced after their houses were hit by tidal flooding, locally known as rob on Friday, June 23.
"The tides today are very strong and cause damage to our houses, I have to evacuate," a resident of Cemarajaya village Wakil Kumis said.
He explained that tidal flooding or rob struck on Friday evening. Strong tides kept on flowing to Friday evening and swept several houses not far from the northern shoreline of Karawang coast.
It is estimated that 15-20 families were forced to evacuate after their houses were hit by rob. Some were displaced to their relatives’ houses and some are confused to find an evacuation site.
"We are all confused about what we should do with this disaster since Eid is only a few days away," he said.
