TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government has predicted an increase in the number of air transport passengers during the Eid al-Fitr period this year. The number of passengers is estimated to rise 9.8 percent higher than that of last year.
Transportation Ministry’s director general for Air Transportation Agus Santoso said that the number of passengers is predicted to reach 5,404,814 passengers comprising of 4,729,287 passengers of domestic flights and 675,527 passengers of international flights.
"This number goes up compared to the real number of passengers in the same period last year," he said on Friday, May 26.
Last year, there were 4,922,176 passengers consisting of 4,297,984 passengers of domestic flights and 624,192 passengers of international flights.
Agus explained that the rise is triggered by positive growth of national air transportation. “The number of available seats is still higher than the increasing number of the passengers," he explained.
Agus added that the number of seats will rise to 5 percent for both domestic and international flights.
