Singapore Tightens Security in Wake of Kampung Melayu Attacks

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Singapore has tightened security in a number of important locations in wake of the bombings in Manchester and Kampung Melayu, both said to be linked to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militant group.
"Singapore is stepping up security checks and patrols at key locations, land and checkpoints on air, ground and sea routes, following attacks in Manchester and Jakarta," a spokesperson from the Singaporean Ministry of Home Affairs said on Thursday, May 25.

The Ministry, she said, will continue to monitor the developments closely and calibrate security measures according to the threat environment.
Singaporeans are also encouraged to contact the police or alert the country's Counter-Terrorism Centre if they see suspicious persons or items.
The bombing at UK's Manchester Arena on Monday night, which took place after a concert by singer Ariana Grande, killed 22 people—including children—and injured dozens. The suicide bomber was identified as Salman Ramadan Abedi, a Libyan immigrant whom his brother admitted to had been a member of ISIS
The blasts in Kampung Melayu bus terminal in East Jakarta, occurred two days later Wednesday night. Two suspected suicide bombers and three policemen were killed by the explosions, and 15 others were injured.
