TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - One day before the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, the prices of staples have slightly increased. Among others, the price of beef in Bengkulu has reached Rp150,000 per kilogram.
According to a local, Wiwi (36), the price hike can be felt quite considerably. The beef price was originally at Rp110,000 – Rp120,000 per kilogram.
“The new price of Rp150,000 per kg is considerably high because it didn’t even reach this level last year,” Wiwi said on Thursday, May 25. Even though this is quite normal during Ramadan, Wiwi said, the drastic increase is quite burdensome considering that the prices of other staples are also getting more expensive too.
In contrast, the prices of chicken meat in traditional markets are around Rp35,000 per kilogram, which only increased slightly from Rp34,000 per kilogram.
