TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A man who was wrongly accused of being the perpetrator behind the Kampung Melayu suicide bomb attack plans to take legal steps following the accusation. Wiryawan Indra Wijaya (36) feels that the situation has created a discomfort towards himself and his family.

Wiryawan was picked-up by police members as he was suspected to be involved in the Kampung Melayu terror attack. The notion sparked after an image of his face was placed side-by-side with the photograph of the severed head which police strongly suspect as the suicide bomber. “We will take this to court,” he said.

Wiryawan explained the possible reason on why the images of his face were spread throughout the internet. He said that he sustained injuries to his leg following a motorcycle accident at Cimande, Bogor, eight months prior. He then left his motorcycle at a factory because he wanted to treat his injured leg in a traditional treatment.

“I was able to temporarily leave my motorcycle there but I was required to leave my ID card [at the factory],” Wiryawan said.

He then went back to pick up his motorcycle after he treated his injured leg and headed back home to Sukabumi. Days after the accident, he remembered that he had forgotten to collect his ID card he left at the factory.

Wiryawan was eventually let go after he was cleared of being involved in the terror act.

His relative said the whole family really feel uncomfortable about this incident. “We will consult with our lawyer to resolve this case and we’ll report this to the authorities.”

Sukabumi Police Chief, Commissioner Rustam Mansur said the news about Wiryawan’s involvement that spread through social media as a hoax. “Based on the investigation, [Wiryawan] wasn’t aware of the bombing, let alone being the perpetrator of the terror attack in Jakarta,” he said.
