TEMPO.CO, Depok - Jakarta Metro Police Insp. Gen. Mochamad Iriawan has told the National Movement to Safeguard the Indonesian Ulema Council Edict (GNPF MUI) to stop staging rallies demanding the prosecution of Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok.
“What’s the point of taking it to the street again? Ahok’s case has been handled and legal proceedings are ongoing,” Iriawan said yesterday in Depok.
Kapolda said that the long march demanding prosecution of Ahok is not linked to the legal process of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Great Imam Rizieq Shihab. The latter has been reported to police by the Indonesian Christian Students Association for insulting Christians in a sermon which was uploaded to YouTube.
A police report was also filed by Sukmawati Sukarnoputri for insulting her father, also former Indonesia president, Soekarno, and the national five principles Pancasila. Rizieq is also implicated in a criminal case over his remarks that new bank notes issued by Bank Indonesia bear the communist symbols.
Iriawan said that he will not allow people to stage another anti-Ahok rally over alleged blasphemy. He expects the people to trust the trial of the Jakarta Governor.
