TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Current Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama better known as Ahok said that he was prepared to leave office and reminded his replacement to keep a watchful eye in distributing the Jakarta smart card program (KJP). The KJP`s distribution is considered to be prone to misusage.
Ahok’s warning is a response to a statement issued by Anies Baswedan who declared his readiness in continuing the KJP program. However, Anies plans to change the procedure where the receivers can withdraw the fund in cash.
“You can’t keep track of their expense if it’s withdrawn in cash,” Ahok said today, April 27.
Ahok argues that it is difficult to monitor KJP expenses if a cash withdrawal of the local government aid is allowed. Considering that it can be used for anything other than school related expenses.
“If it uses an ATM, expenses that don’t make sense can be recorded and detected. That’s my only gripe,” says the incumbent.
KJP program focuses on financially impoverished students to help them continue their school education. The KJP is mostly used to purchase or support school related activities such as shoes, backpacks, transportation cost, food, and extracurricular activities.
