TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Aga Khan Abduh, lawyer of Miryam S. Haryani, said that his client is still in Indonesia. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) earlier named Miryam as a suspect for allegedly committing a perjury in the trial of electronic identity cards (e-KTP) procurement project graft case.

“She’s healthy. I guarantee that she’s still in Indonesia. The KPK is a bit too much. They should have talked to me,” Aga Khan told Tempo on Thursday, April 27, 2017.

According to Aga Khan, the KPK’s request sent to the National Police to cooperate with the Interpol to hunt down Miryam was unnecessary. He explained that Miryam had sent a notification about her plan to file a pretrial lawsuit to the KPK.

“KPK’s request to the Interpol was unnecessary. We have sent a letter about our plan to file a pretrial lawsuit, and a hearing has been scheduled,” he explained.

In response to the KPK’s move, Aga Khan said that his team will convey a note of protest to the KPK and seek a legal protection from the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) and the Supreme Court (MA). He added that he will also send a letter to the National Police asking them not to hunt down Miryam since she is not planning on traveling abroad.

“We’ll send a letter to the National Police stating that our client is still in Indonesia. Therefore, there’s no need to hunt her down, and we will file a pretrial lawsuit,” Aga Khan said.

He explained that Miryam’s failure to attend KPK’s questionings was due to a summons from the court to testify as a witness. Soon after being named as a suspect, Aga Khan claimed that Miryam asked a permission to celebrate Easter. Miryam’s failure to attend the subsequent questioning was due to an illness that is proven by a notification letter issued by a doctor.

Earlier on Thursday, April 27, the KPK sent a request to the Interpol via the National Police to hunt down Miryam. To this date, Miryam’s whereabout is still unknown.
