Oil and Gas Investors Urge Gov't to Formulate Flexible Policies

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government's new policies in oil and gas sector are expected to also consider investment competitiveness in the upstream and downstream oil and gas sectors.
President Director of PT Medco Energi Internasional, Tbk, Hilmi Panigoro said that in formulating new policies, the government should be more flexible and take into account Indonesia's investment competitiveness if Indonesia wants to attrract more foreign investors.
According to Hilmi, every year, global companies provide funds to make investment but they continue to choose countries where they want to make investment.
"Please be flexible. From time to time, we have to consider our competitiveness compared to other countries," he said on Friday.
Hilmi added that in general, investors at the oil and gas upstream sectors always look for locations with a big amount of return.
They also consider geological aspect, infrastructure aspects, fiscal requirements, and political stability, Hilmi said.
