TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Constitutional Court spokesperson Fajar Laksono revealed that there were four of the institution’s employees involved in the theft of a file related to the Dogiyai District and Aceh Singkil election lawsuit. “We were aware of such theft when registration officers were searching for the missing file,” said Fajar Laksono, on March 22, 2017.
Fajar said that the stolen file contains an original application of the Dogiyai election dispute. Four suspects are already detained; two of them were security officers and the other two were government employees of the Constitutional Court (MK). Four of the suspects have committed the crime and have been discharged from the Constitutional Court's office by MK chairman Arief Hidayat.
Four of the suspects allegedly conducted their actions on March 9, 2017. The suspects’ actions came to light following a relentless search by MK employees for the specific file. These employees then decided to observe the CCTV footage and to their surprise, the camera captured the moment when the missing file was stolen by two security guards.
MK established an internal inquiry team to investigate the two security guards. They admitted they had stolen the file, followed by revealing the involvement of the other two suspects in the theft.
“The suspects were trusted to guard the storage room, so nobody assumed that [they] stole it," Fajar said.
He then reported the case to Jakarta Metro Police. He hopes that police can reveal the suspects’ motive; whether they were ordered by certain individuals that are involved in the election dispute.
“This is the first time it has happened, we’re really surprised,” Fajar said.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Metro Police confirmed that they are currently handling the case.
