TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pertamina EP acting executive director Nanang Abdul Manaf said that his company has set a target to address illegal oil wells in April.
“We have set a target in April to address illegal oil wells. We have made an agreement with local oil miners to shift jobs,” Nanang said at Pertamina’s head office in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 21, 2017.
As many as 104 illegal oil wells were found in South Sumatera. Pertamina revealed that illegal oil mining has occurred since 2011. As a result of the illegal activities, Pertamina lost 1,500 barrels of oil per day, which was higher than Pertamina EP’s production in Mangunjaya at 400 barrels per day.
Nanang claimed that Pertamina EP has worked with police to prevent illegal oil mining that often ignores safety. In early 2017, illegal oil mining in South Sumatera caused 18 people injured when a pump exploded.
Nanang promised that Pertamina will rehabilitate the environment around illegal oil wells. Pertamina EP will also seek efforts to produce oil from the wells. However, Nanang said that it would take a process.
Additional production capacity, Nanang went on, is necessary to improve Pertamina EP’s portfolio. This year, the company set a target to produce 85,000 barrels of oil per day and 1,041 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).
Last year, the company booked a productivity of 83,600 barrels of oil per day or below the target. The realization of ready-to-sell oil was only 83,100 barrels per day, below the target set at 84,600 barrels per day.
Last year’s gas production reached 989 MMSCFD, below the target set at 1,020 MMSCFDday. The target for gas sales set last year was 790 MMSCFD, while the realization was 768 MMSCFD.
