TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Shame, shame, shame! A premediated robbery of major proportions -- over Rp2 trilion -- committed by people claiming to represent the people, who entrusted their welfare to legislators they voted for. Instead, the cost of making a very basic but vital piece of every citizen's right -- an ID card -- was abused, marking up the price and costing the taxpayers more money. Is there no end to this high-scale pilfering? Is there no remorse? Except for those who returned some of their billions, mostly denied committing the crime. "If you can prove it (his involvement), I will give Rp1 billion," Golkar chairman Setya Novanto told Tempo defensively, in an interview. His party reportedly got the lion's share of the money. They must be made accountable, all 57 of them if we are ever to see justice done.
