Studio Ghibli's Works to be Screened in Indonesian Cinemas  

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Academy Award winning movies produced by Japanese animation production house Studio Ghibli will be screened at 45 cinemas in 17 cities across Indonesia.

The movie screenings were initiated by Kaninga Pictures and Hakuhodo DY Media Partners, with Studio Ghibli as the license owner, in collaboration with the largest cinema network in Indonesia Cinema 21.

For animation enthusiasts across the country, it would be an opportunity to watch Studio Ghibli’s masterpieces in cinema, since those movies were previously screened in limited cinemas and at special occasions, such as film festivals and cultural events.

“Studio Ghibli has loyal fans across the globe for having high-quality animation and stories with moral values, such as family values, environment protection, and women empowerment,” Kaninga Pictures CEO Wilawati said in a press release as quoted by Bisnis.com recently. “We hope that Studio Ghibli’s movies will be well-received not only by the fans, but also by the general public.”

The first movie to be screened is Spirited Away, which was awarded as the Best Animated Feature Film in the 2003 Academy Awards, followed by My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, Princess Mononoke, and Howl’s Moving Castle.

Wilawati added that Studio Ghibli’s movie screenings in Indonesian cinemas are expected to lead to more cooperation in the future. Further information will be announced during a press conference scheduled on March 30, 2017.
