TEMPO.CO, Bogor - The Bogor Regency government held a simultaneous village head election in 36 villages spread across 26 districts on Sunday, March 12, 2017. One of the villages, Babakan Village in Ciseeng District, held its village election using the electronic voting (e-voting) system for the first time ever. The occurrence was also the first in Bogor Regency and West Java province.
Bogor Regent Nurhayanti said that the e-voting system is highly effective because it has better data verification compared to using the conventional election ballot system. Nurhayanti added that the e-voting system is also quicker and much safer.
"Public participation level can also reach 60 percent because we conducted intense dissemination of information," Nurhayanti said on Sunday, March 12, 2017.
Nurhayanti explained that the e-voting election was a result of cooperation with the Technology Assessment and Application Agency (BPPT).
"I saw other regions have applied the electronic voting system, why can't we?" Nurhayanti said.
Nurhayanti said that the e-voting system should also be implemented for the 2018 Regional Heads Election. “Maybe it’s hard [to be implemented] for regional election, not only because of the high number of voters but also because of lower education level," Nurhayanti said.
Ciseeng District Head Eddy Muslihat said that carrying out the election using the e-voting system took less time because a voter only requires two seconds to cast his / her vote. "It is also more transparent and can minimize violations because the voter data are based on the electronic identification card," Eddy said.
