TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tanjung Lesung is trying to boost tourist arrivals for 2017 by inviting 15 travel agencies from Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur together with media crew from Malaysia to visit Indonesia on March 7-11. Their arrival will be arranged by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Johor Bahru under a program named ‘Familiarisation Trip’.
Tanjung Lesung operator has welcomed the news. “We are elated, particularly in our effort to achieve the target of tourist arrivals for 2017,” PT Banten West Java Tourism Development chairman Setiawan Mardjuki said yesterday in Banten.
Tanjung Lesung in Pandeglang, Banten Province, is one of 10 tourist attractions dubbed ‘New Bali’ by the Tourism Ministry. Tanjung Lesung is part of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Banten Province. The tourist attraction is situated near Carita Beach, the Anak Krakatoa, Panaitan Island and Ujung Kulon National Park.
“We will try to develop it considering the geographical proximity of Indonesia and Malaysia,” Setiawan said. He said that direct flights between Jakarta and Johor Bahru have already been established that would make it easier for tourists to visit the attraction.
Setiawan sees the close proximity between Johor Bahru and Jakarta as an advantage. He said that its travel time is similar to that of Kuala Lumpur and Malacca of only two hours.
“I believe that it will be easy for tourists [from Malaysia] to come.”
He said that Tanjung Lesung boasts one of the country’s most beautiful sceneries and clear water.
