TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Tempo Inti Media Tbk (Tempo Media Group) presented awards to ten exemplary regional heads across Indonesia. Tempo Media Group president director Toriq Hadad said that the company employed a high standard to select regional heads receiving the awards.
"Hopefully, the awards would motivate and benefit cities they lead," Toriq said in Jakarta on Friday, March 3, 2017.
The ten regional heads who received the awards are Banyuwangi regent Abdullah Azwar Anas, Bojonegoro regent Sutoyo, Bantaeng regent Nurdin Abdullah, Batang Regent Yoyok Riyo Sudibyo, Bandung mayor Ridwan Kamil, Surabaya mayor Tri Rismaharini, Tapin regent Arifin Arpan, Malinau regent Yansen Tipa Padan, Klon Progo Regent Hasto Wardoyo, and Makassar mayor Mohammad Ramdhan Pomanto.
Tempo editor-in-chief Arif Zulkifli said that the first exemplary regional head awards event was held in 2008. The awards that used to be presented annually are given once in three or four years for the sake of quality of the winners.
"We hope that we can select new leaders," Arif said.
According to Arif, the winners were selected by collecting data on all regional heads. The judge's team divided the regional heads in several categories. The assessment involved the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK), the Regional Heads Watch Committee, and other stakeholders.
"The aim is to ensure that they are free of corruption," Arif added.
The assessment resulted in 28 nominees. Tempo conducted a verification process to their respective regions. At this stage, the number of the nominees shrunk to 14. Tempo, Arif explained, deployed a team from Jakarta to conduct another verification process and came back with ten names.
Kulon Progo regent Hasto Wardoyo expressed his appreciation for the award. The gynecologist was awarded for his poverty alleviation initiatives in Kulon Progo. Hasto initiated a number of innovations, including issuing a regional regulation to acquire shops located near traditional markets.
"The shops were acquired by cooperatives, and labeled with Tomira or Toko Milik Rakyat [People's Shop]," Hasto said.
