TEMPO.CO, Karawang - Around 5,000 prospective workers in Karawang District that participated in this year’s internship program will receive semi-military style training from the Indonesian Police and Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI). The training is hoped to strengthen the mentality of the workers.
Karawang Deputy Regent Ahmad Zamakhsyari stated that the work discipline and mentality of a number of Karawang workers are deemed not good. “Workers in Karawang must have their disciplines and ethics trained,” said the Regent on Friday, February 24, 2017.
Internship participants will receive a one-day military style training. As many as 300 factories in six industrial regions declared their readiness in accommodating the participants.
According to Ahmad, the industry is not too keen with the work ethos shown by local residents of Karawang. It is shown by Karawang job seekers that fail to find employment in their own birthland.
“In written tests, Karawang residents would have low scores on subjects of mathematics and English. Through this program, they will be given a chance to boost their spirit, ethics, and work ethos,” he said.
Ahmad hopes that this internship program could reduce Karawang’s high unemployment rate. “This is an attempt from regional government in order to give Karawang workers a chance,” he said.
Participants will receive a work certificate after taking part in a six-month internship. They would be prioritized if they perform well. After the program ends, the participants will undergo a competence test to obtain a certificate.
This program is hoped to create workers that can meet the company standards which will be helpful in the future. “This system will help ease companies in selecting their prospective workers,” Ahmad revealed.
