TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) reportedly will march from Al-Azhar Mosque in South Jakarta towards Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters ahead of scheduled questioning of FPI official Rizieq Shihab today, January 23.
“They will use motorcycles and cars, park them in Senayan and walk towards Jakarta Police HQ,” Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Directorate official Adj. Sr. Comr. Budiyanto told Tempo Monday morning.
Budiyanto said that police will escort the convoys and stand guard in several locations along the route passed by the FPI members. “We also expect them to make way for other road users,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Division director Sr. Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono said that 5000 FPI members will join the rally. Argo went on to say that police will deploy enough personnel to oversee it.
Argo said that the FPI protesters will not be allowed to enter Jakarta Metro Police compound. “We will only allow their representatives, lawyers or legal officer,” he said.
Rizieq Shihab will be questioned over his sermon in which he said that the Bank Indonesia’s logo in new banknotes resembles the forbidden hammer and sickle symbol. Rizieq was reported to police by Solidaritas Merah Putih dan Jaringan Intelektual Muda Anti Fitnah (JIMAF).
