TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The West Java’s Police Criminal Investigation Corps is currently held a case presentation related to the state symbol defamation case allegedly committed by Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Syihab. The results of the initial inquiry will determine whether Rizieq will be named as a suspect or not.
“West Java Police investigators are conducting an initial inquiry since 10 a.m. Hopefully, we’ll have the result this afternoon. If we find two evidences, we’ll name Rizieq as a suspect,” West Java Police spokesperson, Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus on Monday, January 23, 2017.
The case presentation was conducted by a team of investigators from the West Java Police and the National Police's Criminal Investigation Corps.
Currently, the West Java Police have questioned 15 witnesses, comprising of field witnesses and expert witnesses. Evidences being investigated included a video footage containing Rizieq Syihab’s sermon in Bandung back in 2011.
“We’ve thoroughly questioned 15 individuals, either expert witnesses or witnesses hwo were present at the scene and others who attended the sermon,” Yusri said.
West Java Police Chief Insp. Gen. Anton Charliyan stated that there was a high chance that Rizieq will be named as a suspect. Rizieq was reported by Sukmawati Soekarnoputri to the Criminal Investigation Corps for allegedly defaming Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno, and state ideology Pancasila. The case was handed over to the West Java Police since it took place in Bandung.
